Overview

The HID Signo 40K PIV Reader is a high-security contactless PIV reader with integrated keypad, designed for government, critical infrastructure, defence contractors, data centres and other environments that require strong multi-factor authentication. Built on HID’s Signo platform, it supports a wide range of PKI-based FIPS 201 credentials, including PIV, PIV-I, CIV, CAC, TWIC and FRAC, and can validate contactless PIV cards containing a Card Authentication Key certificate when used with HID pivCLASS authentication solutions. The reader is designed to support the assurance levels defined in NIST SP 800-116 and provides enhanced transaction speed and read performance for high-security identity verification. Its wall-switch form factor measures approximately 80 × 121.5 × 21.5 mm, making it suitable for professional door installations requiring both card authentication and keypad-based PIN entry. The Signo 40K PIV also supports a broad range of contactless credential technologies, helping organisations transition from legacy cards to more secure modern credentials without immediately replacing their complete access infrastructure. Supported 13.56 MHz technologies include HID Seos, iCLASS SE, iCLASS, MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2 and MIFARE Classic, while legacy 125 kHz credentials include HID Prox, Indala Prox, Dorado Prox and EM Prox.
