The HIKVISION DS-K1201AEF Fingerprint Reader is a professional biometric reader designed to work with Hikvision access controllers for secure door authentication in offices, commercial buildings, warehouses, data centres and other controlled environments. It combines an optical CMOS fingerprint module with a built-in 125 kHz EM card reader, supporting authentication by fingerprint, card, or card + fingerprint. The reader can store up to approximately 5,000 fingerprints and supports both 1:1 and 1:N fingerprint comparison, with verification typically completed in around 1 second. Communication with the access controller is through RS-485 at 19,200 bps, with CRC checking, optical isolation and noise-suppression circuitry for reliable data transmission. Additional features include encrypted fingerprint-data storage, a built-in buzzer, tamper detection and 12 VDC power, while the enclosure measures about 62 × 132 × 44 mm for compact surface mounting. The wider DS-K1201A / DS-K1201 family provides alternatives according to the card technology required. DS-K1201AMF uses the same optical fingerprint platform but incorporates a 13.56 MHz M1/MIFARE card reader, supporting up to 5,000 fingerprints, card/fingerprint combined authentication, 1:1 and 1:N matching, RS-485 communication and tamper monitoring. The earlier DS-K1201EF supports 125 kHz EM cards, while DS-K1201MF supports 13.56 MHz MIFARE cards; both use a 32-bit high-performance processor, support approximately 5,000 fingerprints, provide card-reading distances of roughly 30–100 mm, and are rated IP65. Hikvision also specifies FAR of ≤0.001% and FRR of ≤0.01% for these readers. Although the enclosure is IP65-rated, Hikvision specifically recommends that fingerprint-module devices not be installed in direct outdoor exposure, so protected installation is preferable.
