Overview
The HID Mercury MP1501 PoE+ Edge-Capable Intelligent Controller is a compact, high-performance network controller designed for modern single-door access-control applications while providing a clear path for system expansion. It natively supports 2 readers controlling 1 opening, with capacity to expand through up to eight downstream RS-485 I/O modules or compatible network door controllers for as many as 17 readers/openings. The MP1501 supports approximately 240,000 cardholders and a 500,000-transaction buffer, along with advanced access functions such as anti-passback, programmable access levels, activation/deactivation schedules and event-driven logic. A major advantage is its IEEE 802.3af PoE / 802.3at PoE+ capability, allowing Ethernet communication and power for the controller, reader, lock and related accessories to be delivered through streamlined infrastructure. Modern cybersecurity features include secure boot, cryptographic hardware, data-at-rest encryption, IPv4/IPv6, TLS 1.2/1.3, AES-128/256 and 802.1X, making the MP1501 suitable for corporate offices, data centres, commercial facilities and distributed enterprise security systems. For larger deployments, the related HID Mercury MP4502 and MP2500 Intelligent Controllers extend the same open-architecture platform to enterprise-scale access control. The MP4502 provides native support for 4 readers and 2 openings and can expand to as many as 64 readers/openings; it supports approximately 2 million cardholder records, up to 1,024 inputs and outputs, advanced edge processing, BACnet/IP, elevator destination-dispatch integration and power-management analytics. The MP2500 is designed as a high-capacity intelligent network controller without onboard reader/door I/O, allowing integrators to build the required field architecture using downstream Mercury modules; it supports up to 32 RS-485 expansion modules, 64 readers/openings, approximately 600,000 cardholders and a 500,000-event transaction buffer. Both controllers use Ethernet connectivity and support modern security technologies such as secure boot, encryption, IPv4/IPv6, TLS and 802.1X, while Mercury’s open architecture allows compatible access-control software manufacturers to use the same proven controller hardware.
