Overview
The HID Mercury MR16IN-S4 Input Interface Module is a high-capacity monitoring expansion panel designed to extend the input capability of Mercury-based physical access control systems. It provides 16 individually configurable supervised or unsupervised inputs, allowing connection of devices such as door-position contacts, request-to-exit sensors, glass-break detectors, temperature sensors, intrusion contacts and other security monitoring points. Two additional unsupervised inputs are provided for functions such as cabinet tamper and battery-failure monitoring, while 2 Form-C relay outputs can be used for programmable control functions. The MR16IN-S4 communicates with a Mercury Intelligent Controller over RS-485 at 38,400 or 115,200 bps and supports AES-256 encrypted controller-to-I/O communication. As part of Mercury’s new S4 generation, it also incorporates enhanced secure hardware, SESIP L2-certified cryptography, PQC-capable security architecture and greater processing headroom, making it suitable for enterprise, data-centre, commercial and high-security installations requiring dependable monitoring expansion. The wider Mercury SIO and control-hardware family allows the access-control architecture to be expanded according to the required doors, readers, inputs and outputs. The current MR16OUT-S4 provides 16 Form-C relay outputs for controlling locks, sirens, indicators, elevators and other external devices, while legacy MR16OUT and MR16OUT-S3 products provide similar high-density output functionality in earlier Mercury generations. For door and reader expansion, the MR52 / MR52-S3 / MR52-S3B family supports 2 reader interfaces, 8 general-purpose inputs and 6 Form-C relay outputs, with reader support including OSDP Secure Channel, Wiegand, biometric devices, keypads and other credential technologies. The newer MR54-S4 significantly increases density by supporting 4 doors and up to 8 readers, with up to 12 inputs, while the compact MR50 / MR50-S4 is optimized for single-door applications and the MR50-S4 supports 1 door, up to 2 readers, 2 supervised/unsupervised inputs and 2 Form-C relays. This modular approach enables designers to mix high-density input/output panels and reader interfaces under Mercury MP-series intelligent controllers without replacing the overall system architecture as requirements grow.
